Dear Business Owner: Did you know that the Antelope Valley is the site of the only annual fundraising event that supports and brings awareness to an inclusive and innovative dog therapy program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles? It’s true! The Amerman Family Foundation Dog Therapy Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles recruits, trains and supports a roster of over 125 therapy dogs visiting a wide array of clinical settings. The arrival of a dog in a patient’s room is often one of the most anticipated parts of the child’s hospital stay, providing an opportunity for a happy, memorable moment during what can be a challenging time. In 2017 countlessyoung patients, parents, siblings and medical professionals at CHLA spent quality one on one time with a therapy dog through the Amerman Family Foundation Dog Therapy Program at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Three years ago, our daughter, Highland High School student Tory Kane, was one of the patients to benefit from joyful interaction with a therapy dog. Tory, a talented artist and ardent animal lover who spent many days and nights at the hospital while in cancer treatment, requested before passing away in July 2015 at the age of 16 that donations in her memory be directed to the hospital’s dog therapy program. As a result, the hospital helped us to create the Titania K9 Fund to honor both Tory’s love of animals and her art. “Titania” is an original character that Tory created to represent the superhero inside of each child battling illness or injury. “K9” is a therapy dog and Titania’s trusty sidekick. On Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 2-5 we will proudly host the 3rd annual “Tea for Titania” at the Hellenic Center in Lancaster, California. Can you imagine our joy as we have seen this event blossom the past two years? Tory’s art and her generous spirit live on at this high tea fundraiser which is strongly supported by her family, friends, teachers and medical professionals. Net proceeds from the festive high tea event continue to benefit the Amerman Family Foundation Dog Therapy Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles which is a 501(c)(3) organization. We are a club of volunteers that feel honored to host one yearly event to support a program that impacts so many lives in memory of a young woman that we loved. Last year we raised over $14,000 through the support of individuals and corporate sponsors that contributed to our exciting silent auction and through cash donations. The success of this event is due to the generosity of the 60 volunteer participants and the 95 corporate donors, many from the AV, that made this event possible. This year our goal is to reach $20,000 and we are starting NOW. We are searching for both financial sponsors and donors of an item or a gift basket to our silent auction and invite you to look over our packet and website: titaniak9fund.com. Any questions should be directed to us at 661/618-1408.
Sincerely, Denise and Mark Kane Tory’s Parents and Hosts of Tea for Titania
